Arnoldo Trevino

Social Work Major

Fall 2018 - Spring 2019 recipient

"With a MSW degree, I plan to work with at-risk youth, prisoners and parolees who are interested in a higher education. I see myself as being able to assist in direct service, as well as program design to help our youths and former prisoners in making better choices in their lives. I see many of our underprivileged and under-served becoming confused with what is important in their lives and becoming distracted from life goals and their dreams. I think my education, personality, and my life experience will allow me a unique opportunity work closely with these groups with an authenticity and compassion that is unique in the field. History Major

Fall 2018 - Spring 2019 recipient

"My education at California State University, Fresno as a history major will give me preparation towards my career as a high school history teacher. I will also pursue a credential after my bachelor’s in history at Fresno State to ensure I am certified to instruct as a high school teacher. I have always been attracted to history and I expressed my attraction with discussions and frequent online research when a period piqued my interest, especially when it is an era I had not formerly known about. I realized I can pursue a career in history because teaching can allow me to give lessons about historical events and enlighten more individuals about these events. " ~ April

Samantha L. Engel

Agricultural Business Major

Fall 2018 - Spring 2019 recipient

"I am a very positive outgoing person, looking to put my best work forward. The harder you work the more you are able to accomplish. Therefore, the harder I work the more I will be able to accomplish in my career in agricultural business. My career is what helps me to wake up in the morning with a positive attitude and be able to make a difference in every day I live. I was taught from my parents the harder you work and pursue the more you are able to accomplish and achieve. My education is everything to me; without my education I would not know where my path in life would lead me next. I have always enjoyed working hard and being out there with the world. I intend to be the same way with my career. I intent to be as dedicated to my career as I was in grade school, high school, and now college." ~ Samantha

Erica L. Martinez

Ag. Ed. - Teacher Prep. Major

Fall 2018 - Spring 2019 recipient

"I am constantly thinking how I will be as a teacher for my future high school students. I know the courses I am taking while here at Fresno State will help prepare me for my future career, however I think the learning part is much more than the courses I am taking. Every day I am taking advantage of being a student. I observe the teachers and how the students react to every teacher. I then take mental notes on what I want to do and what I don’t want to do as a future teacher. I plan to get to know each of my students and learn what their needs and learning styles are. I plan to come up with a way to motivate my students. I plan to teach my students what hard work and diligence gets you. I plan to fail and learn through the process of becoming a great teacher."

Erika Garcia Espino

Business Administration (MBA) Major

Fall 2017 - Spring 2018 recipient

"A year prior to applying for higher education institutions, it became clear to me that I wanted to achieve a career in the business field. After assessing my passions and life yearnings, I decided to pursue a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in International Business. Growing up, I had always envisioned travel and business as part of my future. Thus, I knew international business was my dream career as I would not only be fulfilling these life yearnings through my profession but also acquire the resources necessary to prosper. I began to learn about the field of International Business when I entered California State University, Fresno. I took the initiative to connect with classmates, professors, and business professionals to learn about what the world of International Business had to offer me and what I had to offer the world of International Business."

"People's stories and experiences are deeply intriguing to me and I love meeting new people.  I think connecting with others makes the world a smaller place and opens one's mind to a broader way of thinking through issues.  By the fall of 2018 I will likely be teaching my own class of elementary students, spurring them on to realize their potential, and helping them find each of their own special personalities". ~ Emily
